Conventional wisdom says now that I'm a mom I'm not supposed to go to bars any more, right? And certainly not with my child in tow! For shame! But the reality is if anyone needs a drink, its a parent. And I might even have the little one with me when I do, so finding some kid-friendly places to have a drink around San Francisco is a must. As luck would have it, there are plenty of options across the city to enjoy an adult beverage with a baby in tow.
Right in the heart of Hayes Valley, Biergarten is a wide open (and often packed) sunny spot in the middle of San Francisco serving German beer in big steins, deliciously carby bar food, and grass-fed half-pound burgers on Wednesday nights. It gets crowded but there's plenty of room to maneuver even the biggest stroller, and when the kids are old enough there's the awesome Hayes Valley playground just across the street.

Every Wednesday from 4-6pm VinoRosso in Bernal Heights invites the stroller set in for a glass of wine and some adult conversation at their weekly "Wine and Whiners" gathering. It's also a wine shop so if you enjoy your beverage you can pick up a bottle to enjoy at home after the kiddies are in bed (or before, we're not judging.)

By day Progressive Grounds is a mix of Mission neighbors grabbing coffee and laptop warriors sucking up free wifi over wraps and salads, but one night a week the space turns stroller friendly and parents can enjoy beer or wine while the kids play.

Located at the end of Golden Gate Park and right across from the ocean, Park Chalet is a great place to end a day of enjoying some of the city's gorgeous outdoor spaces. The service varies, but the chance to sit outside while your kids run free as you sip a martini should make up for that. The space is also dog friendly.

The Sunset location of Pacific Catch has a lovely patio that seems perfect for parking a stroller and ordering a drink, and their full bar means you don't have to settle for just beer or wine. As a bonus their food is tasty (and the happy hour from 4-6 Monday through Friday is a great deal. (This is also the first place we ever brought Mia for a meal out so it holds a super special place in my heart and stomach)!

Most of these options are restaurants as well as bars, which makes it legally possible to take folks under 21 years (or months) old. That's also another option for grabbing a drink—just head to your favorite restaurant with a bar and enjoy your favorite adult beverage with a meal. Responsibly, of course. Did I miss your favorite watering hole? Let me know in the comments. Cheers!
